Gaggenau on The Block 2021

When it comes to reality tv, The Block has gone from strength to strength, providing both inspiration and excitement for those designing or renovating their own homes. Often pushing the boundaries in order to gain a highly coveted weekly ‘win’ in the lead up to the all-important auction day, we take a look at the impressive kitchens featured in The Block Fans v Faves 2021 season.

This year we saw every house feature our Gaggenau RY 400 series fridge freezer, boasting a 518L net volume and a stainless steel interior that incorporates solid anthracite aluminium elements, as well as TFT touch display. The interior of the fridges are lit with warm white and glare-free LED lights, perfectly illuminating everything inside. When these stunningly engineered fridge freezers are integrated into the kitchen cabinetry, as they have been on this season of The Block, the doors feature an effortless push-to-open function, a testament to the precision of Gaggenau appliances. The RY fridge freezers utilise dynamic cold air distribution as well as an activated charcoal air filter, along with adjustable humidity in the fresh cooling drawer. All of this combines to minimise food odours and keep food fresher for longer. The flexibility of the asymmetrically split safety glass shelf with manual height adjustment is ideal as your needs change depending on what you might be storing at the time. It is especially useful when entertaining or to simply make the most of space within your Gaggenau fridge.

House 1 – Ronnie & Georgia

The elegance and precision of the Gaggenau RY fridge freezer was ideally suited to Ronnie & Georgia’s kitchen in House 1, as they have become known for their sophisticated styling and material palette not only in this season, but in previous ones as well. This year the light colour palette they opted for features a very soft grey for the cabinetry, with a striking composite stone used not only as their waterfall benchtops, but continuing as the splash back and also above the cooktop. The layout is functional with an abundance of space for food preparation and also for entertaining. The whites and greys in the colour palette had the potential to feel quite cool, but cleverly partnered with brass accents and warm natural timbers, Ronnie & Georgia have achieved a balance that creates an inviting atmosphere that exudes elegance. The pendant lighting over the island bench has a sculptural appeal, providing effective task lighting, but also working as a visual focal point, drawing the eye upwards toward the breathtaking height of the raked ceiling above.

House 2 – Mitch & Mark

In House 2, Mitch & Mark return as favourites as well, with a style that is both glamourous and a little bit fun. The overall look in this kitchen at first glance is breathtaking yet quite understated. However, on closer inspection you’ll notice the detailing on the cabinetry doors, the brass half-moon handles, and the softly contrasting colour choice on the face of the island bench, as well as the cabinetry below the cooktop, all adding tactile layers and building interest in the space. Once again, our Gaggenau RY fridge freezer is cleverly concealed behind matching cabinetry doors, working as the hero behind the scenes. While the timber cabinetry below the bench in the butler’s pantry is altogether different from the main show kitchen, it clearly delineates the different spaces and offers an alternative atmosphere. Mitch & Mark do bring in elements of the main kitchen to tie the two spaces together nicely and create a flow between the two. The silhouette of the overhead pendants over the island bench mirrors the form of the cabinet handles, demonstrating a brilliant attention to detail in the space. An effective cooking triangle achieved in the kitchen allows maximum efficiency when preparing meals and a smooth transition between food prep, the cooking process and plating up – certainly a benefit for anyone who loves to cook.

House 3 – Tanya & Vito

Throughout this season of The Block, Tanya & Vito over in House 3 have been thinking outside of the box, and enjoy delivering an aesthetic that blends contemporary design with retro flair. The main kitchen is functional and considered, with the terrazzo benchtop being the main focal point in the space. Step further back into the working space and you’ll be greeted with a 50’s style futuristic curved window and soft pink cabinetry that evokes fond memories of milkshake shops and diners albeit with a touch of luxury. The beauty of having the Gaggenau RY fridge freezer completely integrated is that you get all the benefits of a beautifully engineered German appliance, that is primarily crafted by hand, all the while blending seamlessly into your kitchen. So, no matter what style or aesthetic your kitchen design may be, you can still enjoy all the benefits that a Gaggenau fridge has to offer.

House 4 – Josh & Luke

In House 4, Josh & Luke have executed a sleek and functional kitchen with a strong masculine aesthetic. The black cabinetry is a bold choice, and works well with the grey hue of the timber floors and the architectural appeal of the kitchen. The juxtaposition of the white stone bench beside the natural timber benchtop creates a sense of balance that succeeds in lifting the atmosphere of the kitchen. The soaring ceilings and black framed windows add a sense of drama while flooding the space with beautiful natural light. By hanging the pendants at various heights, it draws the eye upwards and also fills the void above the kitchen. This is a kitchen that is perfectly designed for entertaining, and once again, the Gaggenau RY fridge freezer is concealed behind sleek cabinetry while ensuring the best ingredients are always close at hand. This model of fridge freezer from Gaggenau used throughout The Block kitchens also features an ice maker that is integrated in the freezer compartment, with a fixed inlet water connection.

House 5 – Kirsty & Jesse

Kirsty & Jesse in House 5 have created a stunning kitchen with a different look and feel to the other houses. They’ve carefully considered each element and have opted for more classic details that offer a luxurious and timeless feel to the space. With elements that are reminiscent of Hamptons style kitchens such as the detailing and timber mouldings on the cabinetry, there is plenty of elegance and style to their design. The colour palette is sophisticated and the deep island bench offers plenty of room for family or friends to sit at and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine while dinner is being prepared. The stunning brass tapware and cabinet handles are perfectly matched with the fine metallic mesh on the overhead cabinets, giving a subtle glimpse inside while creating a beautiful focal point in the kitchen. The skylights above the kitchen ensure plenty of natural light fills the space while capturing a welcoming atmosphere and succeeding in creating a kitchen that people will want to spend time in.

As House 5 took the win for kitchen week, Kirsty & Jesse were absolutely ecstatic to find out that being crowned the winners also meant that they would receive additional Gaggenau fridges for a future space downstairs. Already big fans of the Gaggenau RY fridge freezer they’d incorporated into their main kitchen, they couldn’t believe their luck to know that they’d be able to install an RB492 400 series fridge freezer along with four highly coveted RW466 400 series Vario wine climate cabinets – every wine connoisseurs dream come true.

The RB492 offers the same precision engineering as the RY fridge-freezer Kirsty & Jesse used in their kitchen, with stainless steel interior and solid anthracite aluminium elements. This beautiful model also boasts a 5-star energy rating, making it an efficient addition to an already impressive collection. It features a TFT touch display, dynamic cold air distribution, cushioned door closing system and activated charcoal filter. This model also has an integrated ice maker in the freezer compartment, with a fixed inlet water connection.

When it comes to the 400 series Vario wine climate cabinets, these really are something special. The attention to detail, the precision, and the impeccable quality, all come together to represent everything that is Gaggenau. Wine climate cabinets are not only functional, providing precise storage of your coveted wines, but are also a beautiful way to showcase your wine collection, while creating an impressive display. By having multiple, independently controlled climate zones within the appliance, you can keep your champagne, white wine or red wine within different areas of the wine climate cabinet, chilled to just the right temperature for the particular type of wine you prefer to drink.
